Edinburgh students, staff and alumni must complete a health and safety induction in order to access the uCreate Makerspace.
uCreate Makerspace inductions take place in-person in the uCreate Makerspace on the first floor of the Main Library, George Square. For directions, please see here.
The induction lasts around 35 minutes and covers general health and safety and an overview of the equipment available.
They run once or twice a day, almost every weekday.
Additional trainings
Most inductions are immediately followed by a 45 minute specific equipment training for which, by signing up to an induction, a space will automatically be kept for you (but your attendance is optional).
Please see our event booking calendar to determine the specific training on the day of your induction.
We currently offer trainings in:
- 3D printing
- Object scanning - Einscan
- Environment scanning - LiDAR (mandatory in order to use equipment)
- Raspberry Pi
- Soldering (mandatory in order to use equipment)
- Formative Manufacture (mandatory in order to use equipment)
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Illustrator
Unless stated above, equipment trainings are for extra guidance and are optional, unlike the basic health and safety induction, which is mandatory.
For LiDAR scanning only, if you have a group that would like training, you can also email us at ucreate.makerspace@ed.ac.uk to organise a group training session.
